My top 10 Harry Potter Characters

When I hear people say they haven't read Harry Potter, I get so confused. Like HOW???

Last week, at my workplace where I intern at, we were all talking about the things we love, and I mentioned how much I loved HP (My boyfriend says that I geek out when I talk about Harry Potter), so I guess I was geeking out, and someone stopped me mid-sentence, and asked "what's Harry Potter?". I couldn't believe it. I thought they were joking. Turns out, they weren't. I was sick this past weekend with the flu, and I went back to my beloved Harry Potter, just to feel a bit better, and then, I thought, why not give my ranking of my top 10 Harry Potter Characters? So, I did.

Please note that these are just my opinions.

10. Remus Lupin

Remus Lupin maintains his cool, calm, and collected demeanor. In his first appearance in the books, he wards off a dementor and then, for the first time in years, comes face-to-face with the son of two of his long-dead best friends and barely bats an eyelid.

In almost every situation remus finds himself, he's always in control. He's level-headed, has good intuition when it comes to other people's thoughts and feelings, that was how Harry was able to open up to him and to fully process his parents death. As good as he is when it comes it other people's emotions, he's also good at keeping his own emotions in check. Except in like, the two final books where we get to see the conflict he tries to hide so much. First is, his (brief) reaction when he got the news of dumbledore's death. Considering Dumbledore was the first human to give him a chance and let him attend hogwarts like any other 11 year old boy, so hearing the news of the death of someone who fully accepted him and went out of his way to give him opportunities, his emotional fortress briefly crumbled.

Also, the scene in grimmauld place where he tries to abandon his wife and unborn child to go on a dangerous quest that could possibly kill him. Remus is that teacher I wish I had. One who is willing to listen.

9. Draco Malfoy

I just love the way Draco's character develops from a one-dimensional antagonist and bully to someone who is conflicted about the values he was brought up to believe in.

Draco was a kid surrounded by so many horrible people, of course he was going to pick up on those ideologies, he was annoying, a bully, a bigot, made bad decisions, did horrible things, and hurt many people, but towards the end of the series, you can tell how conflicted he was. Draco is still in a state of ambiguity by the time the series ends and it's one of the most realistic character growths I've seen.

8. Regalus Black
Regulus Black was able to recognize his mistake and admit,  to himself, that he was wrong and that what he had been doing in the name of hatred and oppression was wrong. Regulus felt remorse and in turn reversing his course and doing everything in his power to make things right. Regulus gave his life to save his house elf while actively opposing his brain washing in the hopes that one day love and goodness would triumph.

This courageous action should be acknowledged and not taken lightly. It teaches a lesson that, it is okay to be wrong. Accepting that you have made a decision that does not align with your values, even if it appears to be the best option.

7. Luna Lovegood
Luna is an awesome character. She's funny, cute, Free-Spirited, and candid. I love her. Also, Evanna Lynch was perfect for the role of Luna.

6. Sirius Black.
Sirius was naturally a good person who was unfortunately born into a pureblood supremacist family. Fast forward years later,Voldemort is hunting James and Lily Potter, and they made Sirius their secret keeper, and at the last minute, Sirius decided to change it to Peter Pettigrew, and Peter, that rat!(literally and figuratively) sold James and Lily out to Voldy, who killed them leaving poor Harry orphaned. Peter successfully fooled the ministry by framing Sirius for the deaths of Lily and James and some other muggles.

Sirius is taken to wizard jail where he spends 12years without a trial( the wizarding world's judicial system needs a reform too), he escapes catches that rat, and when he wants to kill him, harry's all like "no, don't, my father wouldn't want that, blah blah blah"and then the rat escapes again, and successfully brings back Voldy, Sirius' name still isn't cleared, and in book 5, Sirius died at the battle at the ministry. So sad! Sirius Black's story is really sad. Let's move on to others, this is taking too long.

5. Minerva Mcgonagall
Minerva is a BOSS!!. She's the first magical character we're introduced to in the series, Her Animagus form is a Kitty(and we know how hard it is be a registered Animagus. She's a strict but fair teacher (unlike someone else in the series), she's conscientious and close to Dumbledore, close enough to know that Harry is being taken away to grow up somewhere else. Did I mention her Animagus form is a Kitty???.

4. Dolores Umbridge

Look at this picture and how do you feel? Anger? Annoyance? Imelda Staunton killed this character perfectly! She was perfect. What a performance. Umbridge is more hated than the actual Villain of the series. I think Umbridge is one of the best characters to come out of the whole story. I have never held this much hate for a villian. There are Villians like Voldemort or Bellatrix or Malfoy, and then, there's Umbridge. I think why most people hate her is because we've all met an "Umbridge" atleast once in our lives, but not everyone has met a genocidal maniac like Voldy.

3. Harry Potter
Ah yes, our main character. Harry is Harry was loyal to everybody who liked and cared abouth  He would never be able to betray his friends or closed ones. This trait fits more hufflepuffs but Harry is great example of it too because even if Voldemort would capture him, Harry wouldn’t tell him anything. Nothing that could be bad for his friends. Harry always displayed great courage.

2. Ron Weasley
Ron shows an immense amount of loyalty throughout the books. I think the movies did ron dirty(my opinion). He's the epitome of a perfect best friend, Ron is the ultimate bro, and when he messes up, it's as a result of his own insecurities. He's funny, and also a bit snarky. I also love the part when ron stood on his broken leg and declared that if sirius wanted to kill Harry, he'd have to kill him first. Also, the part when Bellatrix was to toture hermione and Ron was like "no no, take me instead", that was heartbreaking. I love Ron.( I think Ron was done dirty in the movies)

1. Hermione Granger
Hermione is a natural born leader with a love for books, she is extremely loyal and is not just a powerful, Intelligent witch, she also experiences fear, doubt, anger, and learns to grow in the series. She has flaws, yes. But I think I flaws make her shine.

Honorable mentions: The Weasley twins, Neville longbottom, Albus dumbledore, James and Lily Potter, Ginny Weasley, Arthur and Molly Weasley, Severus Snape, and Voldemort.

I hope you enjoyed today's post:-). I've decided to post every Mondays for now. Please leave a comment to tell me who your favorite HP characters are.
Enjoy your week!
